Microsoft will offer free access to individuals from Windows Live Web versions of Word, Excel, PowerPoint and OneNote. Even if Microsoft considers simplistic position face-to-face and its Google Apps online productivity applications, they nevertheless have similarities. The web editions of Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Office OneNote 2010, eased compared to thick client versions, will be free for individuals and users will need only a Windows Live to access. As for access, it can be done from either a computer or smartphone (Windows Mobile and iPhone / iPod Touch) through a Web browser: optional, Internet Explorer, Firefox or Safari. Microsoft seems to have privileged the first three browsers in terms of market share. As regards a future compatibility with Google Chrome, the publisher prefers to avoid.

As for the thick client versions of Office 2010, Microsoft ensures that the Office Web Applications will support the standards OpenXML and ODF 1.1, the format submitted by the publisher. Support of standards that may raise criticism as is the case for Office 2007 SP2. The Open Document Format Alliance has particularly noted the presence of bugs limiting interoperability between applications integrating support for ODF. A beta version of Office 2010 Web should be available in August. The official launch is scheduled for its first half 2010. For storage of office files, users have free space to 25 GB of Microsoft SkyDrive service.

Indeed, Office 2010 license will open the possibility of having no additional charge, access to applications from the desktop, web browser or on mobile. But companies can also choose instead to purchase Office 2010 licenses, to subscribe to a hosted offering. The Office Web Apps will be available on the microsoft support Online Services launched in March. The ribbon interface introduced in Office 2007 is now widespread (even integrates SharePoint). Beyond this ergonomic issue, the editor insists on adding collaborative features. Another new feature is a contextual spell checker to identify errors more easily. Main features of Excel 2010 made the honor by Microsoft, the “sparklines”, the ability for users to convert data in trend curves displayed in a cell. As for PowerPoint 2010, it now includes video support including video codecs H.264 and MPEG 4. Videos can be treated as an image in the application.

To simplify the use of Outlook, including research, Microsoft has added the compression of messages. Thus, all messages related to the same subject are grouped together. Gmail users already know this functionality. Microsoft has also added system tray quick, customizable, thanks to a menu allowing you to easily create new buttons for action.

Best Cell Phones For Texting

These days, texting is one of the fastest ways to communicate with someone without having to sit down at a computer. From the older flip phones that require dialing as a way of texting to slide and tilt phones complete with touchscreen and QWERTY keyboard, phones have gradually become more designed for texting and use of a keyboard. First came the T9 option, which made texting on flip phones a bit easier. Then came these, the two best cell phones for texting. They are the Blackberry Curve series, which includes the 8300 and 8900, and the Samsung Blackjack II, successor to the original Blackjack. These two combine the essentials of efficient texting to bring the fastest experience.

The Blackberry Curve series was first released in 2007 by Research In Motion. The most recent 8900 release sports the classic 35-key keyboard and a candybar design. In fact, the Blackberry Curve 8900 redesigned the older 8300 to get to the Internet, making use of the efficient texting design for browser use, email, and organization. It’s no wonder that this series is one of the best for texting; the average fingertip can press more than four buttons at a time, whereas other phones have larger, bulkier buttons. You can pick up the newer Blackberry 8900 for $399, and the older Blackberry 8300 for $199.

Samsung released the middle child of the Blackjack family, the Blackjack II, in 2007. The original Blackjack, also released in 2007, was already great for texting; it had a simple texting structure and a compact keyboard. While the Blackjack II doesn’t really change much of the texting part of it (both can run on Windows Mobile 6 and have similar QWERTY keyboards), the other features of the phone have really improved: faster processor, improved camera, and a slightly bigger screen. In all, the Blackjack II has not only retained the status of a great texting phone that the original Blackjack had, but also brought up so many new features that sent it to the top of the Consumer Reports smartphone charts. You can buy a Samsung Blackjack II for as low as $99, which isn’t surprising considering that the original Blackjack was once at $50 (currently not in stock).

These two phones have two things in common: fast response times and a compact keyboard. These two make texting very easy because everything is where it should be and the phone won’t make things difficult by being sluggish or whatnot. The industry has yet to see better phones, as these series were designed first for texting (both predecessors were designed with a clean keyboard) and then upgraded up to include very useful features like GPS, video and camera, email, and improved browser use.

Best Web Browsing Phones

Before the advent of the most recent mobile technology boom, browsing the web on your phone was pretty much unheard of; Internet access was limited to computers and computers only. However, plans to spread the use of Internet to cell phones were executed, and the definition of “smartphone” has included the ability to surf the web. Recently, two phones have demonstrated the best web browsing ability the industry has ever seen. These two phones are Apple’s iPhone 3GS and the Palm Pre. With improvements from the previous phones in the series, web browsing is now easier than ever.

The recent iPhone 3GS is a no-brainer after the influential release of the 3G. Apple focused on reducing the response time that the 3G had, and it has definitely come down. What used to take five seconds to load a page now takes a single second, just like a regular computer. The commercials don’t lie when they say that loading things will be faster than ever. The classic iPhone touchscreen and size makes it easy to see exactly what’s needed on the page, and the finger gestures to zoom and scroll make web browsing a smooth ride. You can pick up an iPhone 3GS for $199.

The Palm Pre has a slightly smaller screen than the iPhone, but that definitely does not make it any less qualified. This phone is very convenient when it comes to browsing the web, mainly because of the ability to open up multiple applications and scroll through them with ease. You can browse through two pages at the same time with a flick to switch between the two, unlike the iPhone, which hides the tabs in a different area. You can pick up a Palm Pre for $199 after mail-in rebate.

Both these phones will display your pages the same because the two browsers are both based on the same platform. The difference between these two comes when you consider everything outside of web browsing, like applications, GPS, and other features. Both have an extensive range of the “extras”, but the targeted group for each phone is completely different. But one thing is definitely for sure: web browsing isn’t a problem. You’ll want to get a nice network for both these phones because the one thing that would completely destroy the potential of the devices is poor service.

Hopefully more phones come out in the future that will advance the abilities of phones even further. Instead of looking for the best web browsing phones, soon we will be looking for the best mini-computers instead. Technological advancements will eventually beat the laptop at it’s own game and make the cell phone the next smallest computer.

Nokia Ovi vs Apple App Store

Mobile carriers and handset makers are facing stiffer competition and ever-thinner margins as new technologies, new concerns and new economic surroundings take their toll.To cope with it, they are coming with innovations and call of the hour, as it seems is App Store.Apple StoreApple began its App store as a step of innovation and on the requests of the developers who wanted to create applications for iPhone. The innovation was and is a big hit with developers bringing in the applications and users downloading them. App Store is so popular with the users that within a year of its launch, it has touched 1 billion downloads.Apple, the brand name is synonym for innovation and trend setter. It’s all devices sets the expectation bar high and raise the level of competition. Until now, Apple was the only vendor having App store for its iTunes and iPhone. But now, Nokia has forayed in this segment to yield a tough competition to the earlier one.Nokia Ovi StoreNokia, on the leagues of Apple announced its Ovi Store at the Mobile World Congress this year. The N97 will be the first phone integrated into the service, with the remaining phones following. The Ovi Store fuses Nokia’s existing content services into a one-stop-shop for free and paid content. It pushes Nokia’s vision one step ahead for its larger array of mobile services, Ovi.The article is a deep insight of what lies beneath: What is in stores for end users and developers and how could is redefine the software battle between two giants.Comparison between the two StoresBoth vendor, Mac maker and Finnish leader in mobile making will offer a 70% revenue share to developers.Despite of this similarity, the basic difference lies in factors that pushed the vendors in bringing these App stores. Apple, at one hand initiated application store on public and developers request to develop products for the iPhone while Nokia’s initiative is purely its own decision. The proposal originated totally from business prospective and idea behind it is to stream revenue into the company with a share of app sale prices, and to potentially push the sales of cellphones and Smartphones.Apple brought its App store for iPhone whereas Nokia has plans to bring applications for dozens of different handsets with two different Symbian OS’s aboard. The Ovi Store would offer services which include Ovi Music Store, N-Gage Gaming Service, Ovi App Store, Mashable Widgets and Nokia Maps. Nokia’s initiative can be contemplated as mixture of iTunes, App Store and Google Maps combined with a couple more services. Further to these applications, Nokia’s “comes with music” service is one another attempt to lure users.Being more or less similar in their mottos, both the stores differ in the way they help the users to find the relevant applications for themselves. With Apple, users often get confused as they have to spot the relevant ones from the sea of junk.

The Top Cell Phones of 2009

Lately, we can see an explosion of new, smarter cell phones that have so many new features making life just a bit easier. The top cell phones of 2009 are Apple’s iPhone 3GS, the Blackberry 8900, and the Palm Pre. Although Blackberry and Palm haven’t quite been making the waves that Apple has, their newest releases are two aces of the market.

The iPhone 3GS is a large step forward as a continuation of the iPhone (following the 3G release). The 3GS features powerful features such as video recording, fast response times, voice control, an improved camera, and an interesting and useful thing called Find My iPhone. In the iPhone 3G, loading the Maps application might take 10-20 seconds to completely load the images, and an additional few seconds for the network to kick in and locate your position. The 3GS has cut this total time in half, just one example of how fast the bigger brother loads nearly everything on the phone.

Also, the previous release didn’t include video recording (although available through jailbreaking), something that the 3GS boasts. With complete shooting, editing, and sharing video features, it has finally brought something that many older phones had already had, except in higher quality. In general, the camera is completely upgraded. Now 3-megapixels, the camera allows autofocus and the choice of a subject to focus on. The unique Find My iPhone allows anyone who has lost their phone to located it; if someone else might have it in their hands, Remote Wipe allows the original owner to reset the phone to prevent any information from being taken.

The Blackberry 8900 is a great release that joined the family in February 2009. The 8900 obviously is outshone by the innovation of Apple, but it retains the essential features great to have for any smartphone: 3.2 megapixel camera, video recording, GPS, and wifi. What’s great about the 8900 is that, compared to the iPhone, it cuts out fluff, making it perfect for businesspeople or just anyone who wants nothing but a smartphone. With the clean QWERTY keyboard phone look, the Blackberry 8900 has not only improved upon the Blackberry features, but also the overall feel: clean and classy. The Palm Pre is more versatile than the Blackberry 8900; it even trumps the iPhone in some areas. One of the main features that makes it a better organized phone is the ability to open up multiple applications at one time. Also, while you’re working on these applications, your upcoming appointments and new messages come up at the bottom of the screen, so you can work cleanly through with a friendly reminder. Of course, the Pre is still a smartphone at heart, with those great core features essential for anyone who wants their money worth.

Take a look at these three; they are the top cell phones of 2009.
